Last night, I watched some of these films while listening to the Beau Hunks performing the music of Raymond Scott. The piece "Snake Woman" works particularly well.

Lighten up. Do you really need old movies before you can appreciate this music. Or is your post meant to show how clever you are?

Why, yes! Yes, it's true! I can't appreciate mildly obscure 1930s jazz quintet music without watching silent movies of the 1939 World's Fair. YOU HAVE FOUND ME OUT FOR THE SHAM INTELLECTUAL THAT I AM!

But ain't I jest the cutest little dickens?

While I agree that BOARDS OF CANADA make beautiful music that suits almost any situation, I would suggest the excellent burlesque compilation TAKE IT OFF: STRIP TEASE CLASSICS from Rhino (even though it's music from the 60's).

There's more bared breasts in these films than Ranch-1! Totally unexpected! Was female nudity really that common in 1940??!!

Despite it being a beautiful exposition, it was
considered a bit highbrow so in its second year more
sleaze was added to increase attendance.

PBS did a documentary using this film with Gershwin
excerpts worked real well
